KANKAKEE (AP) — A man convicted of murder has made his first court appearance in Kankakee since escaping from jail and spending nearly three days on the run.
Kamron T. Taylor had a new attorney appointed for him Monday. He also argued that evidence went missing during his February trial.
He did not face any of the new charges expected to be filed in connection with his April 1 escape. Authorities say he beat a guard unconscious and stole his uniform, SUV and gun.
The (Kankakee) Daily Journal says the 23-year-old’s hands and feet were shackled, and he was accompanied by two Cook County sheriff’s officers.
Taylor escaped from Kankakee’s Jerome Combs Detention Center while awaiting sentencing for fatally shooting a man during a botched robbery. He was captured in Chicago.
