CHICAGO — The presence of the lieutenant governor at an event celebrating the Americans with Disabilities Act wasn’t a welcome sight for one man.

Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti was among the speakers at the Chicago launch of ADA 25, a nationwide effort to commemorate the law’s anniversary.
“I’m very grateful for the act,” Sanguinetti said. “I’m very grateful that I am protected from…discrimination based upon my disability, as well as others.”

Objecting to her inclusion was Tim Sullivan of Chicago, who says the governor’s proposed budget would cut him off from assistance he receives through the home services program in the Illinois Department of Human Services.

“It’s going to cost the state of Illinois a lot more to take care of us than it is right now to take care of us in our homes,” Sullivan said.

He says he’s one of 10,000 people who will be cut off from this service if the proposed cuts are a part of next year’s budget.

When asked what he would say to Gov. Bruce Rauner if he met him in person, he responded “Are you crazy? 10,000 people, are you serious?”
