MADISON COUNTY (AP) — A southern Illinois prosecutor says a motorist was texting when he struck and killed a pedestrian and then drove off.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons charged 23-year-old Travis Crain of Madison with reckless homicide and failing to report an accident involving injury or death in connection with the death early Sunday of 25-year-old Mark Harris of St. Louis.

Harris was found dead, his body lying off a Granite City road.

Gibbons says surveillance video placed Crain’s truck near the scene of the collision sometime after 3 a.m., and investigators determined he was texting at the time

The prosecutor says the case “is yet another reminder of the dangers of texting and driving.”

Crain was being held Wednesday on a $750,000 bond. It wasn’t clear whether he has an attorney.
