Ashton D. Trotter pleaded guilty Monday to one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, a class X felony. Two lesser charges of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm and felony possession of a firearm by a felon were dismissed in exchange for Trotter’s guilty plea.

Trotter was arrested Dec. 21, after a 17-year-old male was shot while sitting in a vehicle on a parking lot in the area of Salem Road and George Street in Mt. Vernon.

Prosecutors say the teen was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Health Center and then to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Trotter is required to serve at least 85 percent of his 15-year sentence, followed by three years of mandatory supervised release.

He had been convicted in October of Class 1 felony residential burglary, with two other counts dismissed per a plea agreement. Trotter was serving a 48-month probation sentence in that case when he was arrested in connection with the shooting.
