EAST. ST. LOUIS (AP) — A former southwestern Illinois probation officer who pleaded guilty to selling cocaine to a judge will get to leave federal prison early.

James Fogarty received a five-year sentence for his role in a courthouse drug scandal that led to the imprisonment of former St. Clair County Circuit Judge Michael Cook for heroin possession and weapons violations.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Fogarty is now scheduled to be released early next year, three years ahead of schedule.

A former Cook legal client sentenced to 10 years in prison for heroin distribution will also leave prison early.

Sean McGilvery is now scheduled to be freed in September 2017 after serving about one-third of his sentence.

Federal prosecutor Steve Wigginton says a court order prohibits him from discussing the sentence reductions.
