Clay County native identified as victim of Ala. regatta tragedy

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (AP) — U.S. Coast Guard officials say a third body has been found in the search for missing boaters who were thrown into Mobile Bay during a storm.

Officials said in a statement Tuesday that the Coast Guard and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency have confirmed the body is one of the people who was reported missing during a boat race Saturday as the storm hit.

Coast Guard officials say a good Samaritan found the body while fishing near an offshore gas platform Tuesday morning. The body has been taken to the Coast Guard’s Dauphin Island station.

The boater’s name hasn’t been released.

Authorities have already recovered the bodies of 27-year-old Kris Beall of Pineville, Louisiana and 72-year-old Robert Delaney of Madison, Mississippi, and formerly of Clay County, Illinois.

Coast Guard spokesman Seth Johnson says officials are still searching for three others.

While Delaney’s services will be held in Mississippi, his family intends to have him buried alongside his parents in Mt. Zion Cemetery between Flora and Clay City.
