MARION — A 27-year-old suspect in a Tuesday morning armed standoff in Marion is dead, after exchanging gunfire with police.
Authorities in Williamson County say around 3:30 this morning, Joshua Green opened fire on police as he was entering a building in the area around Main and Russell streets.
Then around 7:30, Green reportedly came out of the building shooting at police, and had a female hostage with him.
Police returned fire, killing Green.
The hostage was injured in the exchange of gunfire and was airlifted to an out-of-state trauma center for treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Green was paroled in January from the Centralia Correctional Center, after serving approximately 3 ½ years of an 8 year sentence from Johnson and Williamson counties on felony residential burglary convictions.
The Illinois State Police is investigating the incident.
