SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Gov. Bruce Rauner has named a federal prosecutor to serve as Illinois’ executive inspector general.

Maggie Hickey has worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois for 10 years. She previously served as chief of staff to Republican U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald of Illinois.

The executive inspector general investigates misconduct complaints against multiple state agencies, the executive branch and more than 300 boards and commissions.

Hickey has served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the office’s financial crimes and special prosecution section, where she prosecuted crimes such as health care fraud, money laundering and tax violations.

A Rauner spokesman says Hickey will start in the new post on July 13.

Ricardo Meza stepped down as executive inspector general in April to join a Chicago law firm.
