WILLIAMSON COUNTY — A 22-year-old Marion man has been sentenced to 12-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, following his guilty plea in March to the 2013 involuntary manslaughter of his 3-month-old son Braysen.
Brandon Vaughn admitted to putting a blanket over his son”s head and then leaving to smoke and talk to friends. When he came back, the child was unresponsive.
The state had asked for the maximum of 14 years, but the judge instead sentenced him to 12-years, giving Vaughan credit for taking responsibility for his actions.
Vaughn will have to serve at least 50 percent of his sentence.
