JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Thursday night incident in Mt. Vernon has landed a man and woman in the Jefferson County Jail, after police responded to a report of a dispute involving a handgun.

According to Mt. Vernon police, around 6:18 p.m. Thursday, they responded to the 800 block of South 21st in reference to a dispute involving one person who had displayed a handgun. Upon the officers arrival the suspect had already left the scene.

Based upon information they received, officers located and arrested the suspect – 34-year-old Tyrone Briscoe, and a female, 44-year-old Angela Tate — near 805 South 21st. After an investigation, Tate and Briscoe were taken into custody.

While arresting Tate, a search reportedly revealed she was in possession of crack cocaine and ammunition.
A search warrant for Tate and Briscoe’s apartment and property reportedly revealed cannabis, drug equipment, and two handguns.

Tate has been charged with obstructing justice and possession of a controlled substance.

Briscoe has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapon, aggravated battery of a pregnant person, possession of firearm by felon, and aggravated assault.

They both remain in the Jefferson County Jail, awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
