CENTRALIA — A 23-year-old Centralia man is in the Marion County Jail, after he was arrested over the weekend on multiple charges when he reportedly attempted to sell a stolen computer tablet back to the woman from who it was stolen.
James O’Neil was arrested on charges of burglary, theft, resisting arrest, criminal damage to property, armed violence and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to reports, a Centralia woman’s car was broken into, and her computer tablet stolen from the vehicle. She later noticed the tablet for sale on a Facebook resale site and contacted the person selling the item to arrange a meeting. She then contacted police so they could watch the transaction.
But when it came time for the meeting, O’Neil apparently noticed a squad car in the area and fled on foot. Police subsequently set up a perimeter and captured O’Neil, who apparently had access to a gun at the time he was apprehended.
Along with the weapon charges, he’s accused of breaking into the woman’s car, stealing her tablet, and causing damage to a window and fence at different homes in the 100 block of North Beech.
