MARION COUNTY — A 32-year-old Keenes man was airlifted from the scene of a crash Friday night that initially took place in Jefferson County, but ultimately landed in Marion County.

Around 10:40 Friday night, Jonathan Sherlock was reportedly driving along at a high rate of speed along the Walnut Hill/Baseline Road east of Route 37, when his vehicle flipped over in the middle of the roadway.

Sherlock reportedly ran from the scene after another motorist, 32-year-old Kirk Hayes, of Kell stopped to help Sherlock out of his vehicle and to report the crash.

It was then that 18-year-old Mallory McMahan, of Mt. Vernon, was driving down the road and crashed into the wreckage of Sherlock’s vehicle, pushing it into Haye’s truck and ultimately pushing the wreckage into Marion County. McMahon reportedly didn’t see Sherlock’s car in time to stop.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office brought in their K-9 unit to track down Sherlock. He was found nearby on the side of a creek bed, where he apparently had collapsed from his injuries.

Neither Hayes, nor McMahon were injured.
