SPRINGFIELD — Vaping’s not for kids. At least, that’s what Illinois lawmakers say.

The Illinois House has passed a bill to outlaw possession of electronic cigarettes by anyone under 18. The sponsor says the bill treats the product as if it were a real cigarette.

“Most of these have nicotine in them,” said the sponsor, State Rep. Kathleen Willis (D-Addison). “The FDA is still out as to whether this is really a harmless device or not.”

Willis says the product is good for adults who are trying to quit smoking.

The penalty for violators of this measure, should it become law, would be 15 hours of community service or a $25 fine.

S.B. 32 passed the House 106-0.
