CHICAGO (AP) — The manager of a suburban Chicago restaurant has been fired for allegedly barring the service dog of a veteran from the facility.

Garrett Loughran and his labradoodle, Hershey, attempted to enter a Houlihan’s in Algonquin on Sunday for lunch with Loughran’s parents.

Loughran’s mother, Laura Wills, said when the family walked in, a hostess and then her manager questioned the need for the service dog and told them they wouldn’t be allowed to bring the dog into the restaurant.

Wills wrote about the experience on her Facebook page and on Houlihan’s page.

Houlihan’s Restaurant Group vice president Am Fasholt-Fisher says she and the Kansas City-based company were “mortified” to learn of treatment received by the veteran and his dog. She said the manager has been fired and the restaurant is making a donation to Pets for Vets.
