COULTERVILLE, Ill. — The death of a 59-year-old mine examiner in Randolph County is under investigation, after the man died doing pre-shift inspections Sunday at a Peabody facility.
The Randolph County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Glen A. Campbell, of Sparta. He was pronounced dead at the Gateway Mine in Randolph County.
Charlene Murdock, a spokesperson for Peabody, commented that a loss like this is felt by employees around the world, and Peabody deeply mourns the loss of a fellow employee. She and Peabody extended their sympathy to family members, coworkers and friends, if Campbell.
Peabody, the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and state officials are investigating.
