QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — A former Illinois prosecutor charged with killing his first wife wants to move the trial from the county where he served.
The (Quincy) Herald-Whig reports that lawyers for ex-Adams County assistant state’s attorney Curtis Lovelace on Monday filed a motion to relocate his first-degree murder trial.
The former Quincy school board member and Big Ten football standout at Illinois was charged in August 2014 with first-degree murder in 38-year-old Cory Lovelace’s fatal suffocation eight years earlier.
His attorneys say the case has drawn too much publicity to ensure the selection of an impartial jury in the southwestern Illinois county. Lovelace, who is 46, has pleaded not guilty.
He remains in the Hancock County Jail in lieu of $5 million bond while awaiting trial, which is to begin in September.
