David S. Jordan has been held in the Clinton County Jail since his arrest in January, with bail set at $100,000. According to reports, a neighbor had witnessed Jordan holding the toddler in the air by her arm and hitting the child so hard her legs were flying outwards in the air, and that when he was done striking the child, he threw her against his truck.

When a Carlyle Police officer arrived on the scene, he noted injuries to the child and took Jordan into custody. The little girl was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese, but was later transported to Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis.

Jordan pleaded guilty Wednesday to a Class 3 felony charge of aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13, and Class 4 felony criminal damage to property. Two Class 3 felony charges of aggravated battery in a public place, as well as two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery were dismissed per the plea agreement.

In addition to serving another 7-days in jail, Jordan was ordered to serve 30 months probation, attend a special facility for drug and alcohol treatment, and pay more than $4,000 in fines, fees and restitution for the criminal damage conviction.

Online court records show a string of protection orders against Jordan for different plaintiffs — two for the mothers of his children — that date back to 2008. He was also convicted in 2010 of aggravated assault of a peace officer and knowingly damaging property, for which he received a conditional discharge.
