BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Salary and benefits increased 24 percent for the top executive of Illinois’ high school sports governing body as he plans to retire early next year.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that documents show Illinois High School Association executive director Marty Hickman’s compensation grew by more than $73,000 to more than $372,000 for the 2013-2014 school year.

The newspaper reports the nonprofit organization does not have to comply with state disclosure laws and released little information about the top executive’s contract. Records from the Internal Revenue Service show the IHSA spent $3.1 million on salaries and benefits in 2012-13.

Hickman’s base salary of nearly $203,000 puts him in the same bracket as the state’s highest paid school administrators.
