SPRINGFIELD — Illinois is getting into a program to better use the Internet to investigate and process adoptions which occur across state lines.

“There has to be an exchange of information between the two states, via mail or fax,” says Illinois Department of Children and Family Services spokesman Andrew Flach. What this does is dramatically speed up the process.”

Flach says Illinois would be the first state to implement this following a pilot program. The system is called NEICE, the National Electronic Interstate Compact Enterprise.

DCFS acting director George Sheldon said in a statement: “I often remind our staff that we need to operate with a sense of urgency, using ‘kid time’ instead of ‘adult time,’ but sometimes we are hampered by out-of-date technologies and procedures.”
