ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say they have captured a 19-year-old man who they say escaped from a juvenile detention facility west of Chicago.

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice says Denzell Walker left the medium-security Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles around 10 p.m. Monday.

Authorities say Walker was taken into custody Wednesday. They would not say where he was apprehended.

Department of Juvenile Justice spokesman Michael Theodore says Walker was taken to the facility June 4 on a parole violation because he had been arrested on burglary charges.

Theodore said the man’s escape was the first from a state juvenile prison since 2013. He will be returned to state custody.
