It’s been a rough 24 hours for Amtrak passengers in the area. Wednesday night, passengers on the Amtrak train from Chicago became stranded just north of Centralia.

The train reportedly left Chicago’s Union Station just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, and just about ten miles north of Centralia the train’s power started to flicker, before finally going out completely. The train coasted into town and passengers were stranded for about 2 1/2 hours.

It was later determined the train was out of fuel. A tanker had to come in from Marion to refuel the train. Passengers finally arrived in Carbondale around 1 a.m. Thursday.
