CENTRALIA — Amtrak passengers in Centralia are delayed this morning, due to equipment failure on a train that departed 20150611_094557Carbondale.

According to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari, the equipment failure occurred just north of Carbondale and the train is being held there for repairs. Magliari says passengers who planned to depart Centralia this morning, should postpone travel until this afternoon, when the anticipate the problem will be resolved.

It’s been a rough 24 hours for Amtrak passengers in the area. Wednesday night, passengers on the Amtrak train from Chicago became stranded just north of Centralia.

The train reportedly left Chicago’s Union Station just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, and just about ten miles north of Centralia the train’s power started to flicker, before finally going out completely. The train coasted into town and passengers were stranded for about 2 1/2 hours.

It was later determined the train was out of fuel. A tanker had to come in from Marion to refuel the train. Passengers finally arrived in Carbondale around 1 a.m. Thursday.
