FAYETTE COUNTY — Strong storms swept through the St. Peters and Farina areas Sunday causing damage and knocking out power for many, although it was quickly restored to Ameren customers in the Farina area.

Reports say 4 to 5 power poles were blown down on Route 185 in St. Peter, as was a shed and tree.

The National Weather Service is still trying to determine whether a small tornado or straight line winds are responsible for the damage.

As of 9 p.m. on Sunday, the Village of St. Peter was without power. Other surrounding towns were reporting outages as well.

Ameren Illinois website said 196 customers were affected in Fayette County. It could be Monday morning before power is completely restored.
