MOUNT VERNON — A 43-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been arrested in connection with a weekend robbery at King City Liquors in the 300 block of South 12th in Mt. Vernon.

Just after 9 p.m. Sunday, Mt. Vernon police responded to the liquor store on a report of a robbery. According to police reports, Sherman Dupree approached an employee at the drive up window of the liquor store to make a transaction and before fleeing on foot, stole a small amount of cash from the employee’s hand.

During the subsequent investigation, patrol officers developed a suspect and made contact with Dupree at a location in the 500 block of South 15th Street.

Dupree, was taken into custody on charges of robbery and obstructing identification. Evidence associated with the robbery were also seized from inside the residence.

Dupree is currently held in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bail to be set. He was released in April from the Illinois Department of Corrections when his four-year concurrent sentence for felony burglary and criminal damage to property out of Jackson County was completed.
