GURNEE, Ill. (AP) — Six Flags Great America officials say the amusement park operator is raising pay for seasonal workers from $8.25 to $9 an hour.

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/1CdR7Ug) the Gurnee theme park is holding a job fair Friday. Applicants are urged to preregister online.

Park spokeswoman Katy Enrique says the pay increase taking effect later this month will apply to workers in food service and ride operations. It also will apply to water safety workers at the park’s Hurricane Harbor.

Enrique says the pay increase is needed to compete in the regional job market. Great America says it hires more than 4,200 seasonal workers to join year-round staff in operating the park.

The Illinois minimum wage is $8.25 an hour.
