CENTRALIA — Police are investigating an overnight burglary of a Centralia grocery store, in which an unspecified amount of cash was taken from the safe.

Illinois State Crime Scene Investigators along with Centralia police are investigating the burglary, which is believed to have taken place either late Sunday night, or early Monday morning at Borowiak’s IGA on East McCord Street.

Police report cash was taken when entry was gained to the store safe, but nothing else in the store appeared to have been taken. The burglary was discovered around 5:40 this morning by the first employees arriving for the day. The store remained closed most of the morning as law enforcement collected evidence and processed the crime scene.

No other details, such as how entry was made into the store, have been released at this time.
