OREGON, Ill. (AP) — Electronic cigarettes will be prohibited in almost all Ogle County public and work places starting July 1.

The (Dixon) Telegraph reports that the county’s director of health education and emergency preparedness said in a Wednesday news release that the ban was motivated by an increase in young people using e-cigarettes.

The ban applies to offices, theater, museums, libraries, education institution, schools, enclosed shopping centers, retail stores, restaurants, bar, private clubs and gaming facilities.

First-time violators will be fined $100. Businesses will be fined $250 for a first violation. The ban covers all places in Ogle County where traditional smoking products are banned.

The Ogle County seat is Oregon, about 25 miles southwest of Rockford.
