Mt. Vernon woman dies in Sunday morning fire

MOUNT VERNON — A fire Sunday to a Mt. Vernon home has claimed the life of the 47-year-old female resident.

According to Jefferson County Coroner, Eddie Joe Marks, Tamara Malin of Mt. Vernon passed away after a fire at her home Sunday. Malin died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.

Mt. Vernon Fire Department’s Assistant Chief, Kevin Sargent, says fire crews were called to 301 Harrison Street around 11:30 a.m.

Fire officials say the front of the two-story apartment building was on fire when they arrived at the scene.No word on what caused the fire.

Mutual aid was requested from Jefferson Fire Protection District and Litton Ambulance Service also responded for medical assistance.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal along with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office was notified to respond to the scene to investigate the fire death. At this time the investigation is ongoing with the MVFD, OSFM, Mt. Vernon Police Department and the coroner’s office
