MARION COUNTY — A late Monday morning accident involving at least six vehicles on U.S. Highway 50 in Marion County sent at least two people to the hospital with injuries and closed the highway for hours.

The accident happened just after 11 a.m. in front of the RP Lumber store between Salem and Odin, leaving U.S. Highway 50 closed between Odin and Selmaville Road, until nearly 6 p.m., when one lane of the highway was reopened for both east and westbound traffic.

Salem Fire Protection District responded to the scene with a hazmat unit to clean up a diesel fuel spill. Marion County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Illinois State Police, Odin police and fire and Marion County ESDA also responded to the scene.
