PATOKA — According to Fayette County authorities, they responded late Sunday night to the Patoka Boat Access Area of Carlyle Lake, on a report of a man with a gun threatening to harm himself.

Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen says deputies and Illinois State Police responded to the scene and located the subject in the vehicle.

Bowen says the subject was asked to exit his vehicle multiple times and did not respond.

The officers on scene then heard a single gun shot, and upon investigation the subject was found to have received a gunshot wound.

EMS responded and at 1:09 a.m. Monday, Bowen was dispatched to the scene, pronouncing the subject dead at 1:54 a.m.

Bowen identified the man as as 38-year-old Marty Brandt of Sandoval.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fayette County Coroner, and further information will be released at a later date.
