FAYETTE COUNTY — A crash Sunday in Fayette County involved six vehicles and led to multiple individuals being treated for injuries. Traffic on Interstate 70 just west of the Brownstown exit was already slowed due to construction at the time of the accident.

Illinois State Police says a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Jeromy Taylor of St. Genevieve, Mo., was traveling west bound on I-70, near mile post 67, when police say he topped the hill and saw all the other vehicles were stopped in a lane of traffic due to the construction.

The Taylor vehicle then reportedly struck the rear driver’s side of a vehicle driven by a 42-year-old female from Westville.
According to ISP, Taylor’s vehicle continued on the shoulder striking four more vehicles on the drivers’ sides.

A passenger in Taylor’s vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. The driver of Unit 3 — a 66 year old man from Cincinnati, Ohio–was also taken to the hospital for treatment and also a passenger in Unit 4. Taylor was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
