MARION COUNTY — A weekend traffic crash in Jefferson County has claimed the life of a 17-year-old Salem man.

Roudey Hensley succumbed Tuesday afternoon to the injuries he suffered in Saturday night’s crash that injured four other Salem teens in the same car.

Hensley, who would have been a Senior at Salem Community High School in the fall, was airlifted after the accident to St. Louis University Hospital, where he died Tuesday.

He had been a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Salem boy when the vehicle was reportedly struck by a pickup truck being driven by a 23-year-old man from Ina.

Quentin Metje allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Triton Lane and Illinois Route 148, striking the car carrying Hensley and the four other Salem teens. Metje subsequently arrested for alleged driving while intoxicated and taken to jail

The four others in the vehicle with Hensley were taken to Mt. Vernon area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. All four were released from the hospital where they are recovering from injuries including fractures to vertebra, a collar bone fracture and a facial bone fracture.

According to State Police, Metje was arrested for alleged DUI and cited for disobeying a traffic control device. Other charges against Metje are pending and he remains in the Jefferson County Jail. He and his passenger were not injured in the crash.
