That teen was reportedly arrested after being released from an out-of-state hospital where he was treated for a minor gunshot wound.

The officer and teen reportedly exchanged gunfire Wednesday after the officer responded to a report of an alleged armed robbery at a residence on the south side of Mounds, with the teen fleeing the scene on foot.

The teen is being held on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery to a police officer charges.

The officer, Lyle Womack, was reportedly shot in the hip around 7 a.m. Wednesday and was transported to the hospital around 8 a.m. The Mounds Police Department reports Womack had surgery and is in stable condition.

UPDATE: Authorities are reporting that a police officer in the far southern Illinois community of Mounds has been shot, and police are looking for a suspect considered armed and dangerous.

According to the Mounds City Police Department, around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, Officer Lyle Womack was shot in the hip and was transported to the hospital around 8 a.m. The department says Womack is out of surgery and is in stable condition.

At least two people on scene were taken away in handcuffs, but there is no word if they were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police say they were responding to a report of an armed robbery at a home on the south side of Mounds when Womack was shot.

They say the suspect fled from the scene on foot and is still at large. Police continue their search for the subject who they say should be considered armed and dangerous. No description of the suspect has been given.
