MARION COUNTY — A 47-year-old Iuka man has been sentenced in Marion County Court to 8-years in the Illinois Department
of Corrections, after he pleaded guilty to having sexual relations with two female relatives between the ages of 13 and 17.
Roger Johnston was arrested in 2013 in Michigan, after the two victims reported the incidents to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office as they were concerned Johnston would do the same to other minors who were living with him.
One of the two girls reported the abuse happened over 15 years ago, but the other reported being abused around 5 years ago.
A warrant was issued for Johnston’s arrest, and he has remained in the Marion County Jail since that time, with bail set at $100,000.
Johnston was charged with three Class 2 charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim at least 5-years his junior and one Class 2 count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a family member under the age of 18.
He pleaded guilty today to two counts aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim at least 5-years his junior, in exchange for the other two charges being dismissed.
Judge Mark Stedelin assessed Johnston nearly $800 in fines and fees, and agreed to have him remain in the Marion County Jail until next week at which time he will be transported to IDOC.
