The Illinois Department of Transportation is urging motorists to slow down and stay alert, following traffic crashes in two work construction zones that will continue to have intermittent lane closures.

Those construction zones are on U.S. 50 between Baldridge Lane in Salem to U.S. 51 at Sandoval and on Route 161 from Murray Center in Centralia to the east edge of Bartelso.

According to IDOT, in the past few weeks, there have been three wrecks in the U.S. 50 work zone and two others in the Route 161 work zone. The latest occurred Monday in a Route 161 work zone.

A spokesman who called the station says there are several days of work left to finish the U.S. 50 resurfacing project that will require intermittent one way traffic, and the Route 161 project will have intermittent closures for milling, resurfacing and patching work over the next few months.
