MARION — Democratic State Rep. John Bradley of Marion wants you to sent copies of your utility bills to his office if you are a victim of what he calls the recent unfair rate hike put onto Ameren customers.

Bradley says after recent capacity costs auction by MISO, the power grid operator, it was determined that the capacity cost is 40 times higher for southern and central Illinois than the other 14 states involved in the auction.

Bradley noted that this cost is being passed directly onto consumers, and it is completely wrong and unfair to attack one section of our state. He added that many residents have already seen this added cost and brought copies of their bills showing the increase to his district office.

After the original auction determining the rate, Bradley sent a letter to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan asking her to investigate the process, which resulted in her filing an official complaint with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Citizens Utility Board, or CUB, a consumer watchdog organization for utilities has been actively involved in helping to reduce the costs and raise awareness of the unfair costs put onto southern Illinois residents.

Bradley says he is proud to stand with the Attorney General and CUB in their mission to determine the cause of these outrageous increases in our downstate electric bills. For more information, call Bradley’s office at 997-9697.
