SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University is putting its search for a new Carbondale campus chancellor on hold.

The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises newspapers reports (http://bit.ly/1e4OM8h ) that President Randy Dunn and SIU trustees made the announcement on Thursday. Dunn says instead the school will appoint an interin chancellor who will serve for two years. Dunn has been overseeing the campus since interim chancellor Paul Sarvela died of cancer in November.

The search for a new chancellor was delayed in May when the school’s top candidate withdrew his application.

SIU officials also say they plan to name an interim chancellor for the school’s Edwardsville campus to serve for one year. Edwardsville campus chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe resigned last month.
