FRANKLIN COUNTY — According to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, a 33-year-old county jail inmate was pronounced dead Tuesday after he was taken to the Franklin County Hospital in Benton.

The Illinois State Police is leading the investigation into the death of Joseph Lukasik. Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler expected an autopsy to be conducted Wednesday at the Franklin Hospital Morgue.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and coroner’s office are assisting state police in the investigation.
