ZION, Ill. (AP) — Police say one child was injured when a car driven by an unlicensed 16-year-old girl crashed through a wall of a north suburban day care and into a room where several children were eating breakfast.

The Lake County sheriff’s office says the crash occurred about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Lee’s Family Daycare and Learning Center in Zion.

Officers say the driver was turning into the driveway when she stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake and struck the wall. The teen didn’t have a driver’s license or a learner’s permit but her aunt had allowed her to drive the car.

An 11-year-old child was taken to a hospital.

Officers cited the driver and her aunt for traffic infractions.
