JACKSON COUNTY — A Jackson County attorney has announced she’ll run for the Illinois Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. David Luechtefeld of Okawville.

Sharee Langenstein’s announcement for the District 58 Illinois Senate seat comes a little over a month after longtime Luechtefeld announced he would not run for the job he’s held for 20 years.

Political experts say the 58th district tends to vote Republican and conservative, and Langenstein played to those voters in her announcement, saying she’s a strong proponent of social values and a fiscal and social conservative, values she says go hand-in-hand.

Langenstein serves on the board of Illinois Lawsuit Abusewatch and supports several Republican initiatives like tax and regulatory reforms, in line with Governor Rauner.
