CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Department of Employment Security says unemployment rates dropped in all Illinois metro areas in June. It was the 16th straight month of statewide decreases.

But the department said Thursday in its monthly report on metro jobless rates that only eight metro areas added jobs. The Chicago-Naperville-Arlington and Danville areas were among them.

The six metro areas that lost jobs included Peoria and Decatur.

The lowest jobless rates were 4.6 percent in both Springfield and Bloomington. The highest rate in June was Decatur’s 6.6 percent unemployment. That was still a 2 percent drop from a year earlier.

The department said earlier this month that statewide unemployment fell to 5.9 percent in June.
