MARION COUNTY — Bail has been set at $50,000 for a 44-year-old Salem woman arrested over the weekend for allegedly attempting to run over her husband several times with her SUV.

According to Salem police, Marjorie Woodward was arrested for after she attempted to leave her home during a domestic dispute with her husband and he initially tried to stop her, believing she was too impaired to safely drive.

Woodward reportedly started to damage the inside of her husband’s truck until he gave her keys to the SUV.

Once inside the SUV, police say Woodward first drove the vehicle at her husband in the driveway, but he was able to jump out of the way, leading the SUV to instead strike the garage, causing some damage.

Woodward then reportedly backed up the SUV, striking her husband’s truck, then drove forward into the yard and toward her husband.

The husband informed police he was struck by the SUV and rolled over the hood of the vehicle before he was able to run southbound away from his wife.

Police say Woodward continued to drive into a field after her husband, ultimately hitting him again before he managed to run between his truck and a shed, only to have her strike the truck again, pushing it toward her husband.

A neighbor witnessing part of the incident yelled out that the police were on their way and Woodward then drove away from the home, only to be stopped by police near Hotze and Boone. She was arrested without incident.

Her husband declined hospital treatment, despite receiving some injuries during the incident.

She was formally charged this morning in Marion County Court with Class 3 felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. If able to post the $5,000 cash bond, she is prohibited from having contact with her husband and is required to abstain from drug or alcohol use.

She is next scheduled in court August 13, with court appointed counsel.
