FREEPORT, Ill. (AP) — Freeport’s new Veterans Affairs clinic will open at the end of next month.

The (Freeport) Journal-Standard reports that the new facility is expected to serve 2,000 veterans a year. It will open Aug. 31 with 4,500-square-feet of space including ten patient procedure rooms instead of seven. There are plans to increase staffing at the clinic too.

The clinic will offer programming for veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. It also will offer primary care, medication management, mental health services and women’s health services.

The federal Department of Veterans Affairs first opened an outpatient clinic in Freeport in 2004.
