Rauner taking heat over high-paying salaries for top aides

SPRINGFIELD — Governor Bruce Rauner continues to take fire over the salaries he’s paying to his top aides. State Representative John Bradley (D-Marion) is refusing calls from his Republican colleagues to end his weekly hearings into the salary issue.

Bradley contends Rauner is paying $1.7 million more than former Governor Pat Quinn did to fill those same posts. Rauner’s office calls Bradley’s hearings “a sham” and has refused to send anyone to attend them.

Instead, Rauner’s aides have sent downstate lawmaker letters mocking him, and hinting that he could face opposition in the next election if he continues.
