WEST FRANKFORT — Two people died and two others were injured in an overnight shooting in West Frankfort.

West Frankfort Police Chief Shawn Talutto says police got a 911 call regarding shots being fired at a home located at 406 N. Madison St. Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene.

Once they arrived, shots were fired at officers resulting in an active shooter situation. The suspect was identified by witnesses on the scene as 32-year-old Harley M. Wilder.

Talutto says when police entered the home, they say two people – one adult and one juvenile, had suffered gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital.

Two others people were pronounced dead by Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler. The chief says Wilder, who is also known as Matthew Wilder, is believed to be the person responsible for the shootings. He was found dead on scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Witnesses said that Wilder was holding the handgun when it went off. Leffler pronounced 42-year-old Ray Adams dead. Police continue to investigate. Autopsies are set for later today.
