Centralia man pleads to lesser charges, rape charge dismissed

Editorial note: Rush successfully completed TASC probation on the two convictions and the charges were then dismissed.

CLINTON COUNTY — A 21-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Thursday in Clinton County Court to 60 days in jail with credit for time served, after he entered a negotiated plea in a 2014 felony case charging him with raping his ex-girlfriend.

Shaquille Rush entered an Alford Plea to the lesser charges against him, which is not a guilty plea, but admits that the prosecution could likely prove the charge.

Rush was initially charged with Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault by force, for an alleged incident in Carlyle. That charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

He then entered the Alford Plea to the remaining charges against him, Class 3 felony identity theft and misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm.In addition to the jail sentence, Rush was ordered to serve 30 months probation on the felony charge and 24 months probation for the misdemeanor charge to be served concurrently.

He was additionally ordered to pay $5,721 in fines and fees, with $5,000 being paid from a cash bond he had posted shortly after his arrest.
