QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — Attorneys for a former Adams County prosecutor accused of killing his wife have asked for a trial delay.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that Judge Bob Hardwick will hear arguments on the motion Monday in Adams County court. Curtis Lovelace’s murder trial currently is scheduled to begin Sept. 21.
Lovelace’s attorneys say they’re not finished with pre-trial work and there are scheduling issues. Special prosecutor Ed Parkinson says he will oppose the motion.
Lovelace was charged with first-degree murder in August 2014 for the suffocation death of his wife, 38-year-old Cory Lovelace, eight years earlier.
The former Quincy school board member and University of Illinois football standout has pleaded not guilty and remains in jail in lieu of $5 million bond.
