MOUNT VERNON — An afternoon search warrant has landed a 21-year-old Mt. Vernon woman in the Jefferson County Jail on charges she was manufacturing meth in her home while her children were present.

According to police, on Wednesday afternoon members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High Risk Team executed a search warrant at 810 S. 22nd Street in Mt. Vernon, taking Savannah Penland into custody.

The warrant was secured after investigations by the MVPD Patrol Division developed information that methamphetamine was being manufactured at the residence.

After the residence was secured a search by Narcotics Division Detectives resulted in the recovery of active meth lab production and numerous meth manufacturing materials.

In addition to finding Penland in the home, officers also reportedly found two small children who have been taken into protective custody.

Penland was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail on a charges of aggravated meth manufacturing, possession of meth manufacturing materials, and child endangerment.

One other person is being sought in regards to the investigation.
