JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 23-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Saturday, after Mt. Vernon police officers conducting a sex offender compliance check in the 1300 block of Westcott reportedly found evidence suggesting methamphetamine was being produced at the residence.

William Flanders, a registered sex offender, was taken into custody on charges of Possession of Drug Equipment, Possession of Meth, Child Endangerment, Possession of Meth Manufacturing Chemicals, Possession of Meth Materials, Unlawful Disposal of Meth Waste, and Participation in Meth Production.

While at the residence conducting a compliance check on Flanders, officers made observations indicating meth was being produced at the residence. After further investigation, officers reportedly located items used in the making of meth inside the residence.

A child inside the residence was taken into protective custody and transported to a local hospital for a checkup.
The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
