UNION COUNTY — A 26-year-old Dongola man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in state prison Monday for Second Degree murder in connection with the beating death of 47-year-old James H. “Jimmy” Morrison of Anna.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler Edmonds says Travis Turner’s sentence is the maximum sentence allowed under law for the offense.

Turner was arrested in April of last year as part of an investigation by Illinois State Police and the Anna Police Department.

Edmonds says the co-defendant in this case, 35-year-old Jessie L. Bell of Anna, was sentenced last week to 20 years in state prison in connection with Morrison’s death.  Bell was found guilty in May by a Union County Jury.
