KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) — Kankakee County officials have approved a special use permit for a wind farm that’s expected to be built next year.

The Daily Journal in Kankakee reports the County Board approved the permit Wednesday for the Kelly Creek Wind Farm, which will straddle Ford and Kankakee counties.

Thirty-three of the project’s 108 turbines will be erected in Kankakee County.

The newspaper says construction could begin next spring.

Several local officials urged the county to approve the permit, including Tri-Point Community Unit School District 6-J Superintendent Jeff Bryan. He says the property tax revenue generated by the project would be enough to hire 10 teachers.

EDF Renewable Development Inc. has said it hopes to complete the project by the end of 2016.
